Leo

Leo’s labored breaths echoed in the stillness of the mountain as he and Bliss continued their ascent. The sun’s relentless rays bore down upon them, turning Leo’s face a rosy shade of exhaustion. Bliss, on the other hand, moved with an effortless grace.

“Why are we hiking up a mountain again? You said the forest was nearby,” Leo panted, his words barely finding the strength to escape his parched lips.

“Sugar, I never said that. Besides, we’re incredibly close now,” Bliss replied, a mischievous smile playing on his lips.

Leo wiped the sweat from his brow and managed a weak chuckle, “You said that a while ago, and I’m starting to think you’re taking me out here to murder me.”

Bliss chuckled in response, the sound as melodious as it was unnerving, “If I was, then you’d have been dead before we even started.”

A bead of sweat trickled down Leo’s temple as he pushed on, determined to uncover the secrets of this mysterious forest. “How far do we still have to go?” he sighed, coming to a halt.

“Just a couple more,” Bliss assured him, his voice holding a note of unwavering determination.

Leo was about to retort when Bliss abruptly stopped in his tracks. “What’s going on?” Leo asked, his voice trembling with a mixture of fear and fatigue.

“I feel something. Are you still good to fight over there?” Bliss said, his eyes fixed on a point in the distance.

“Yeah, I can still fight,” Leo replied, reaching deep into the well of magic within him, feeling it respond with a gentle hum.

“I know you’re here. I can feel you, Wendigo,” Bliss growled, his stance shifting into a battle-ready position.

Leo’s eyes widened in alarm. “You couldn’t have told me that sooner, Bliss? A fucking Wendigo?”

Bliss shot him a withering look, his voice dripping with sarcasm, “Well, I would have thought that you noticed since, I don’t know, you’re a fucking necromancer!”

Leo didn’t want to admit it but Bliss was right. He was a fucking necromancer and he should have sensed the vile creatures.

The very trees surrounding them seemed to wither and decay, their leaves turning to ash, and their branches curling into grotesque shapes.

The Wendigo emerged from the shadows, its form shifting and twisting with an otherworldly grace. It stood tall, its emaciated body covered in mottled, ashen skin. Its eyes, a malevolent shade of crimson, bore into Leo’s soul, sending shivers down his spine.

Bliss swiftly notched an arrow in his bow, and it began to glow with a radiant golden light. “Leo, you need to conjure a weapon. Do it now!”

Leo’s heart raced as he stammered, “I’m not that strong, Bliss. I can’t conjure my own weapon.”

Bliss shot him a knowing look, his eyes locked onto Leo’s, “You can, Leo. I sense an insurmountable amount of death magic within you. Use it to conjure your own weapon.”

Nodding with determination, Leo closed his eyes and reached deep into his core. He visualized the darkness within him, the well of death magic that pulsed with untapped potential. With every ounce of willpower, he drew it forth.
